Some sewer backup’s and clogged drains you can’t prevent due to pipe deterioration or collapse but there are some things you can do as a homeowner to avoid seeing the dreaded “water around the floor drain”
1. Keep wipes, feminine products, and paper towel out of drain! These products don’t break down and will cause costly backups in your pipes
2. Store it, don’t pour it! What does this mean? Instead of rinsing greasy or oily dishes down the sink store the grease in a container and dispose of responsibly. Fats, oils, and grease are like magnets to your pipe walls and the build up can cause catastrophic backups
3. Garbage disposals are a great convenience but putting to much solid or fibrous material down the garbage grinder can result in backups down the line
